I’ve finally gotten to the age where I can tell the kids about what life was like ‘back in my day’. I rolled my eyes when my mother said it to me. I grew annoyed in my younger career days as the seniors at the various workplaces said it. I don’t currently say it, but I recognize that I am at that age.
As 50 reminds me she will be here shortly I get to look at the things which have happened in my lifetime with awe. I am of a generation where the internet did not exist to a time where you carry it in your pocket, on your phone.
I am a child of hip hop, and there are those who would tell you that today’s hip hop isn’t what it used to be, in a sense they are right. In a different sense using the words of Christopher Wallace they are dead wrong.
This is the hop hop of my 20’s.
This is the hip hop of my 40s.
They arent all that different, even if nostalgia wants to convince you they are.
