I love a man who reads Reddit and listens to Kevin Samuels. I am not sure how that happened. I am a Black Queer Feminist, the type of person who finds either of those categories attractive typically I don’t find attractive. As a friend would say they are ashy as fuck.
Because I love this man, I try to understand that specific point of view. I tell myself I am doing it to save him. He doesn’t need saving. He is absolutely worth loving, he is absolutely not as ashy as some of his counterparts. Fuck Reddit and IDGAF about Kevin.
I think the biggest disconnect is that his current[Kevin], gig is about explaining to women about how to become married. The first thing that irks me about that is I have no idea why women should want to be married. This is a super long point of mine, and one frankly which may remain no matter how long this blog goes. I don’t understand the desire for marriage.
I get why you want love. I get why you want a connection and a partner. I don’t agree that the delivery of that comes from the signature of the state on a marriage certificate.
What I especially don’t get about Kevin is that many women are out here, taking his notes, and selling themselves short in the hopes some man will pick them. As if some man choosing you validates you. I would end that if I could but I wonder if that is beyond my superpowers.
I have to admit that he and I are both outliers. Who we are as people, defies all of the trope and dogma this type of mass consumed media plays into. I reminded him of this when we had our last conversation about Mr. Samuels. Who I am in the words of Mr. Samuels, is a low value woman. Who he is in that same world, is a High Value Man. If he bought into Kevin instead of listening to Kevin he would not choose me. He did though.
I reminded him of every thing that people like this say, and yet he chose me. “You’re an outlier”, he said. As are you I said.
I reminded him that we are meant to change the world, not fall into the old fairytales which have not served us, Black people.
This concept that Kevin throws out there is not necessarily our reality. It is the ideals of yt supremacy which were not designed for us to flourish.
It is time to write a new program. My pen awaits.
